July 7, 2024: Should Christians Support Donald Trump?

Some Christians support Donald Trump because they feel he defends people of faith and cares about people like them. To examine whether we should vote for Donald Trump in the future, let’s look into the past.
On December 8, 1941, the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Franklin Roosevelt said of the invasion of the United States, “No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory. …With confidence in our armed forces—with the unbounding determination of our people—we will gain the inevitable triumph—so help us God.”1
Why should we then go into a voting booth under no duress, and trust our nation and way of life to a burgeoning tyrant?
On June 6, 1944, American soldiers charged up the beaches of Normandy, France, facing a hail of machine gun fire, giving their lives in defense of democracy and to oppose Nazism. 2,501 Americans were killed on D-Day.
Why then do we, without lifting a finger of opposition, hand our cherished republic over to a budding fascist dictator, who we know will topple our government and destroy our democracy immediately?
In 2011, birtherism —also known as the Birther Movement— was started by Donald J. Trump by persistently questioning and denying that former President Barack Obama is a natural-born citizen of the United States of America. There was never any credible evidence that suggested Obama was not born in the United States of America. Since Barack Obama is our country’s first African American president, studies have confirmed that racial resentment was a major driving force behind birtherism.2

That racial discrimination is counter to Christian beliefs is plainly evident in Revelation 7:9: “After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people, and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.”
Obviously, God is not a racist, since the accepts people from all races into heaven. From where then, do Former President Trump’s virulent racist sentiments come?
The first impeachment of President Donald Trump in 2019 was based on soliciting foreign interference in the 2020 U.S. presidential election to help his re-election bid. So why were we subsequently shouting, “Stop the steal” in 2021?
The second impeachment of President Trump in 2021 was for incitement of insurrection relating to the January 6 attack of the U.S. Capitol.
Romans 2: 6-8 says, “God will repay each person according to what they have done. To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality, he will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.”
As part of their attempts to overturn the 2020 U.S. presidential election, Trump and his allies repeatedly falsely claimed there had been massive election fraud and that Trump had won the election.3
According to the Washington Post, by the end of his term as president in 2021, Mr. Trump had made 30,573 false or misleading claims.4
This year (2024), the latest fish story is, “I know nothing about Project 2025," said Trump. "I have no idea who is behind it."5 John 8:44 says, “…the devil… is a liar and the father of lies.”
Let’s remember, the Supreme court's presidential immunity ruling (2024) started as Donald J. Trump v. United States. The case asked, “To what extent does a former President enjoy presidential immunity from criminal prosecution?”6
Why didn’t the previous forty-four presidents need to ask for criminal immunity? By supporting Donald Trump, we are participating in his criminal enterprises.
Proverbs 1 says, “My son, if sinful men entice you, do not give in to them. If they say… cast lots with us; we will all share the loot. My son, do not go along with them, do not set foot on their paths; for their feet rush into evil, they are swift to shed blood. …These men lie in wait for their own blood; they ambush only themselves! Such are the paths of all who go after ill-gotten gain; it takes away the life of those who get it.”
Worse yet, the Supreme Court approved presidential immunity. This case was brought by a former president who engages in criminal activity, and who is looking for permission to continue to do so. These wise and learned justices, however, are asking you to believe that they fail to grasp these basic facts.
Micah 7:3 says, “Both hands are skilled in doing evil; the ruler demands gifts, the judge accepts bribes, the powerful dictate what they desire—they all conspire together.”
